The main purpose for having a website of your own is for having people visit it. To let people know that your website exists, you need to advertise to show the online community who you are, what you do and what you can do for them.
There are a number of ways to get the word out about your website. One way is advertising your website to get more website traffic. This can be done by getting a number of links to your website posted through other sites of similar interests. Today having a top quality website is essential for small businesses, but promoting your website to get listed with the search engines and increase traffic to your site can either make or break you. Of course, your website was not intended to sit idle online, but to get as many viewers as possible.
If you want to increase website traffic with links back to your website, there are a few things you can do. Since search engines such as Yahoo!, Google, and Bing can drive traffic to your site, register with them so your site will get indexed which allows searchers to find you. When submitting your site to directories and search engines, create an eye catching, detailed listing that will entice potential visitors. The more directories and search engines that know about your website, the greater your chances increase of more traffic from web surfers.
You can create a sign up list for those visitors who visit your web site and want to receive email newsletters from you about your website topic. Creating a mailing list for Internet newsletters is a great way to build a relationship with your web site visitors and to offer special promotions or send weekly or monthly news and updates. The newsletter can drive your subscribers back to your website to take
advantage of your special offer. Several services offer contact management services so you can easily get a sign-up form on your website and send follow up emails.
Chat rooms, message boards and other forums with subjects relating to your web site work as great ways to promote your site. Although you should never directly advertise on any of these forums, participating allows you to answer questions and build up your credibility. You can also include your signature file at the end of your posts. The signature file contains your contact information and a link
to your website. Use this in every email and forum post to increase website traffic.
Offering a freebie can quickly attract significant traffic to your website. Offering a freebie related to your target audience such as software, downloadable forms, informative articles, ebooks and other resources full of valuable content, can draw visitors to your website. Buying ad space on established websites in the same field as yours can also increase website traffic. You can easily place these ads with Google’s Adwords advertising program, but there are many sites that can place your targeted ads. You may want to consider placing your ad within a search engine or directory, or even in a local newspaper or magazine for a slightly higher advertising price. Having your website and contact information on personalized stationary to use with all your off-line transactions can yield terrific results. Using business cards, letterheads and envelopes, are effective ways to advertise your website while paying a bill.
There is an enormous variety of ways to advertise and to increase website traffic. Regardless of the field of interest, there are people out there surfing the Internet that will be interested in what you have to offer them. Creating the website is a good first step, now you must find your audience; do not expect them to find you without some help. You must help guide them to you through advertisements and effective promotion.

Here’s a quick, easy free traffic method for a WordPress blog, like Word Press Direct. A friend told me about this traffic building tactic by accident when she bought a niche website. A Twitter account came with it, which did not interest her at all until she realized that the blog was automatically posting a tweet every time there was a new post on the blog.
And what was more, those tweets were getting indexed by Google and showing up in search results much higher than the actual posts on her blog. Now that’s an ‘Aha’ moment. If you tweet already, you are probably already know about this technique so this post is not for you. It’s for non-twitterers like myself.

I just put down in writing the system I use for generating tons of traffic as a Clickbank affiliate.

Fair warning, this is highly automated, but it actually takes some work. But it is highly effective, not a freakin’ waste of time like most of the crap I’ve paid good money for.

I installed Jeff Johnson’s Traffic Getting Plug-in on one of my Word Press Direct blogs. Everything seemed fine. When I installed it on my “money site”, and then let it optimize my site. It replaced all my categories with numbers. Thanks Jeff, that’s real great for SEO.
Besides that, Jeff uses this plug-in to advertise his stuff on the blog control panel. Extremely annoying, almost as annoying as Jeff’s video’s (don’t waste your time).
Instead of this worthless plug in, which only gets a couple of plug-ins for you that WPD already has, I use a three pronged approach to getting free traffic.
1. I write articles that get published in http://ezinearticles.com. It’s free and it has a page rank of 6. I am now “Platinum” member, which you can get for free by getting about 9 articles published.
2. I use Unique Article Wizard to submit articles to thousands of sites. This tool works great because it submits articles that are unique, but written by a human. It’s a unique system and when you sign up you must promise not to disclose how it works. I highly recommend it. I love getting the daily reports telling me my article(s) was submitted to another 50 sites that day, and the next day, and the next day. It costs about $67 a month, but I like it a lot better than Google AdWords!
3. Traffic-Bug is a social bookmarking tool. It is really simple to use and submits to directories, blogs, search engines, you name it. It will also submit your RSS feed, which can be very valuable. This tool works really well. It is ridiculously cheap at $20 a month. I’ve looked at every social bookmarking tool and program out there, and some are super expensive or super clunky.
I write articles that get published in http://ezinearticles.com, then I post the article on my blog and bookmark it using Traffic-Bug. Then I submit a similar version of the article Unique Article Wizard. This gets lots of links to my site and lots of free traffic.
This is a much better way of getting free traffic than Jeff Johnson’s Traffic Getting Plug-In. Stay away from that thing! Okay, enough free advise. Now I have to go back and undo the damage from Jeff Johnson’s Traffic Getting Plug-In.
For PPC or SEO, a good landing page is key. Just having some text, a picture and an opt-in box doesn’t really cut it anymore. There’s a solution….blogs. You can make money with a WordPress Blog, and it doesn’t even have to look like a blog if you don’t want it to!
I began building blogs when Google wouldn’t give me any more love in Adwords. My ads were shown MILLIONS of times. Then one day, nothing. Nada, zippo, zilch.
The header, title tag, description, etc. are all in the right place.
Big deal, right?
Bigger websites get more love from Google. It’s just a fact. Sites with 100+ pages score higher with Google. Don’t know about you, but I don’t want to write 100’s of pages right off the bat.
WordPress Directwill automatically post YouTube video’s, Yahoo Answers and lots of other content. I pay a measly $35 per month for 15 (yep, fifteen) fully SEO optimized, widgetized, automated, pimped-out blogs.
The user interface is unique. You can get to the typical WordPress blog admin site, but WordPress Direct has a much easier interface where you can set up auto-posting, sale offers and a whole lot more.
